We Are Open – Safety is Our Top Priority!
We’ve reopened in accordance with CDC, O.S.H.A., and State Dental Board guidelines to responsibly resume seeing our patients for regular dental appointments and treatment. We want to assure you of the measures we take to maintain a clean and safe environment so you can continue to receive needed dental care without fear or concern.
If you want healthy teeth and gums, a dental exam every six months is essential. Many problems, from cavities to oral cancer, don’t cause you any pain until they are already advanced. You can save yourself a great deal of time and expense by taking advantage of preventative care.
During your exam, we’ll check for:
- Gum disease
- Oral cancer
- A misaligned bite
- Loose fillings and more
If the hygienist finds evidence of a large amount of tartar (hardened plaque), our dentist will go over the proper way to brush your teeth and stress the importance of flossing. In addition to any problems that you are having, you can talk to our dentist about making your smile more attractive with a cosmetic procedure during your dental exam. Call us to schedule your dental exam in Virginia Beach with a dentist who cares about your dental health.
Why Do I Need My Teeth Cleaned at the Dentists Every Time I Have an Exam?
A dental teeth cleaning, or dental prophylaxis, is necessary twice a year to remove plaque and tartar buildup at the gum line. When your dentist suggests a dental cleaning every time you have an exam, it’s no reflection on your at-home oral care routine, it’s because no one who eats and drinks can remain plaque-free. Remember, every time you have your teeth cleaned, you’re lessening your chances of developing gum disease, the number one cause of tooth loss in adults.
Can a Dentist Provide Periodontitis Treatment?
Periodontitis, commonly called gum disease, begins with gingivitis, or bacterial growth near your gums that cause them to become inflamed. This is reversible with better oral hygiene and a dental cleaning at our office, but if gum disease treatment isn’t started right away, it will likely lead to periodontitis. Periodontal treatment is more aggressive and invasive, but the goal is to stop eventual tooth loss.
What Causes Bad Breath?
Something you ate or poor oral hygiene are usually at fault for bad breath. Try brushing or gently scraping your tongue when you brush your teeth; this may help. If you cannot get rid of chronic bad breath, call our office to arrange for a dental exam. Our dentist will check for gum disease or decay that could be the culprit. If you have neither, our dentist will suggest better ways to clean your teeth at home.
Who Does Oral Cancer Screenings?
We strongly urge you to have an oral cancer screening during your first exam at our dental practice. The reason we’re so insistent is because oral cancer can be easily treated if caught early. However, it can be much more difficult to treat and to prevent from returning if the cancer is allowed to spread. Remember, our dentist can be your first line of defense against oral cancer.
If it has been too long since you visited a dentist, call our office to arrange a dental exam in Virginia Beach, Our friendly dental team will make you feel at home and we won’t lecture you about the lapse between exams.
