If you are self-conscious about your smile because of missing teeth, implant-supported dentures may be the answer for you. Call our dental office today to find out more about the advantages of implant-supported dentures in Suffolk.
Traditional dentures rest on the gums and typically require the wearer to use adhesives to keep them in place. Implant dentures are anchored to ball-shaped posts or metal bars that are secured into the jawbone so that they feel as stable as your natural teeth. Implant-supported dentures come in both fixed and removable versions that can be used for either the lower or upper arches.
From your initial consultation, the process normally takes five to seven months. If you and your dentist determine that implant dentures are the right denture option for you, we will schedule an appointment for you to return to have the implant posts put in place. Some patients require as few as two implants; however, the majority of patients require four to six implants. Over the next several months, the implants are allowed to fuse with the surrounding bone. You then return so that the dentist can expose the implants by making a small incision in the gum. The final denture placement takes place about two weeks later once the incision has healed. During your initial consultation, the dentist will determine if you are a candidate for a one-step process that will allow you to receive your dentures sooner.
Most patients find that implant-supported dentures are an economical way to improve the aesthetics of their smile and their overall dental health. The cost of denture implants is based on a number of factors, including the number of implants required, the type of implant selected, and the process used to place the implants. Our staff will discuss costs with you following your initial consultation.
Implant-supported dentures provide greater stability, a more natural feel and improved function that are not possible with traditional dentures. This allows the wearer to speak and eat with confidence without having to rely on denture adhesives. Implants also help to reinforce the jaw so that there is less natural bone loss.
If you choose fixed dentures, you will simply brush and floss your teeth as normal. Removable versions should be taken out every night so that they can be cleaned. You should also follow up with your dentist on a regular basis to have the dentures adjusted and to have the implant attachments inspected to make sure that they are in good shape.
We are proud to offer implant-supported dentures and other tooth replacement options for patients of all needs and budgets. Call our office today to arrange a consultation to discuss your denture options.
